Pointe Coupee Farmers Coop

Batchelor, LA 70715

The Pointe Coupee Chamber of Commerce recognizes May business of the month, Pointe Coupee Farmers Cooperative.

Opened in 1965 and later relocated to its current location on Hwy 1 in Batchelor, the Farmers Co-op is a central site for farmers from miles around to drop in and purchase supplies, have a cup of coffee, talk business or just visit while lounging in one of the several old fashioned rocking chairs near the front desk. The chamber board members were welcomed with smiles and coffee, and even offered donuts or biscuits from a local customer who was just stopping in.

The Farmers Co-op has grown from its original 384 square feet to now more than 50,000 square feet of retail and warehouse. Manager Doc Spears began working in 1991 and at that time The Farmers Co-op generated $3 million a year in sales. Today, that number is anywhere from $11-12 million in sales annually. Doc explains that the Co-op is ag-rye related. They service the needs of farmers from rice to cotton, sugar cane to corn, crawfish, cattle & horses. You can have your tractor or vehicle tires fixed there while also grabbing fresh herbs and plants for planting. “It’s a cooperative in the true sense of the word, “ Spears explains. “It’s stockholder-owned and operated.”

The Pointe Coupee Farmers Cooperative won the Chamber of Commerce Impact Award in 2015.
